Nano Banana Pro vs GPT Image 2.5: which is better for product images?
Updated October 23, 2026 · By Jason Miller
For finished product photos, Nano Banana Pro is the better starting point, and GPT Image 2.5 is the better pick for fast iteration and for edits that must keep an existing product exactly as it is; Sloosh, which runs both in one Studio model picker, gives the same split in its docs: Nano Banana Pro for finished product photos, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst to change one thing in a photo you have (Oct 2026). On general leaderboards GPT Image 2.5 leads: Artificial Analysis ranks Sunburst #1, Flare #2 and Nano Banana Pro #11 in text-to-image (Oct 23, 2026).

What independent tests found
JXP (September 15, 2026) ran both models through four identical prompts.
- Product photography: both rendered the label "HYDRA GLOW" cleanly. Nano Banana Pro won on finish, with a more editorial look. GPT Image 2.5 added label copy that was not in the prompt.
- Text and editing: ties.
- 4K output: Nano Banana Pro delivered 4096 x 4096 px, against 2880 x 2880 px for GPT Image 2.5 Flare.
- Speed and cost: GPT Image 2.5 took about 20 to 40 seconds at 1K and was cheaper at every resolution; Nano Banana Pro took 40 seconds to just over 2 minutes.
JXP calls it "a real but small sample": one prompt per scenario, Flare at Medium only.
IMA Studio (September 14, 2026) tested repeated edits to one real product: three five-step chains per model on a pendant lamp photo, 30 images in all. Both passed the colour, background and copy steps, but Nano Banana Pro turned the lamp's shallow lower shade into a rounder dome in all three chains. Sunburst kept the shape. Caveat: one product, one square format.
Leaderboards. Artificial Analysis' text-to-image arena (Oct 23, 2026) ranks GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst #1 (1,222 Elo), Flare #2 (1,207) and Nano Banana Pro #11 (1,118). On LMArena, Sunburst and Flare also hold the top two places, per Wikiprompt (Oct 20, 2026) and The AI Rankings. These boards score general images by blind vote, not product fidelity.

When Nano Banana Pro is the better choice
Google's Gemini API docs call Nano Banana Pro "the premium choice for the most complex visual tasks". It is no longer Google's headline model: the Gemini app now calls Nano Banana 2.1 "our best image model" and offers Pro through "Redo with Pro". Sloosh's docs say Pro keeps a brand's look the same across many images.
That makes it the stronger choice for a finished hero, lifestyle or listing image. Sloosh's Amazon Listing Pack Space runs on it and turns one product photo into four square images: a white-background main image, a lifestyle shot, an in-hand scale shot and a macro detail, for 8.04 credits a run. Product in Scene + Relight places your product into a scene photo and relights it: one 4:5 image, upscaled 2x, for 2.76 credits.

When GPT Image 2.5 is the better choice
GPT Image 2.5 wins when you need many options fast or an edit that must not move the product. Flare, the fast tier, runs at up to 50% lower latency than GPT Image 2, per OpenAI. OpenAI recommends Sunburst for "workflows where editing precision matters most".
Use Sunburst when one thing in a product photo must change: a background, a cap colour, a seasonal prop. Sloosh's docs suggest writing "change only" that thing, then listing what must stay, such as the bottle shape and label, on every edit round.

What Google's AI Overview gets right and wrong
Google's AI Overview says GPT Image 2.5 is faster, cheaper and best for dense text, and Nano Banana Pro gives true 4K and more natural materials. Most of that matches JXP's test. Three corrections:
- Labels are not a clear GPT win. JXP and IMA Studio both scored label text a tie.
- "Native, uncompressed 4096 x 4096" overstates one test. JXP measured it on one platform; GPT Image 2.5's 2880 px square is OpenAI's pixel cap, not a quality setting.
- It skips product fidelity and leaderboards. Nano Banana Pro reshaped a product across IMA Studio's edits, and GPT Image 2.5 tops both public arenas.
Where else you can use each model
- Gemini app and Gemini API. Google AI Pro, Plus and Ultra subscribers can redo an image with Nano Banana Pro; the API offers
gemini-3-pro-image. Best for: people already in Google's tools. - ChatGPT and the OpenAI API. ChatGPT Images 2.5 is on every ChatGPT tier; the API offers
gpt-image-2.5-flareandgpt-image-2.5-sunburst. Best for: developers and ChatGPT users. - Sloosh Studio. Both models in one picker, plus product Spaces built on them. Best for: running both on one photo and keeping the better result.
Watch out for: Sloosh's GPT Image models have no transparent-background setting, so use Remove BG in Studio. Product in Scene + Relight warns that small label text can soften. Sloosh has no free plan; a first workspace gets 20 starter credits once.
How to test both on your product in Sloosh
- Open Studio Image and add a sharp product photo as a reference.
- Pick Nano Banana Pro, describe the finished photo (product, surface, light, then text in quotes) and set 2K.
- Press Generate; the button shows the cost first.
- Press Recreate on the result, switch the model chip to GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst and run it again.
- Zoom in on the label, the product's shape and the reflections in both, and keep the better one.
How we compared
On October 23, 2026 we read JXP's and IMA Studio's tests, the Artificial Analysis arena, Google's Gemini API pricing and docs, OpenAI's image guide and changelog, and Sloosh's docs and pricing. LMArena positions come from two secondary snapshots because the board blocked our reader. We ran no tests ourselves.
Frequently asked questions
Is Nano Banana Pro better than GPT Image 2.5 for product photos?
Yes, for finished product photos where the look matters most: JXP's September 2026 test gave it the product round on finish. For edits that must keep the product's exact shape, GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst did better in IMA Studio's test.
Which is better, Nano Banana or GPT Image?
It depends on the job. GPT Image 2.5 ranks #1 and #2 on Artificial Analysis' arena (Oct 23, 2026) and is faster and cheaper; Nano Banana Pro gave larger 4K files and a more finished product look in JXP's test.
Which model keeps product labels more accurate?
Neither has a clear lead: both rendered label text cleanly in JXP's and IMA Studio's tests, though GPT Image 2.5 added unrequested copy in JXP's. Put the exact label text in quotes and check every image.
Which is cheaper per product image?
GPT Image 2.5 Flare: about 244 images from the Creator plan's 195 credits in Sloosh, against about 2.01 credits per 2K Nano Banana Pro image. On the APIs, Nano Banana Pro costs $0.134 per 2K image; OpenAI bills GPT Image 2.5 by tokens.
Can GPT Image 2.5 make a product image with a transparent background?
Not in Sloosh. OpenAI's API has a transparent setting, but Sloosh does not offer it; generate on a plain background, then use Remove BG in Studio.
Which model is better for 4K product images?
Nano Banana Pro. It delivered 4096 x 4096 px in JXP's 4K test, while OpenAI caps GPT Image 2.5 at about 8.3 megapixels, 2880 x 2880 for a square.
Bottom line
Use Nano Banana Pro for finished hero, lifestyle and listing images, and check the product's shape. Use GPT Image 2.5 Flare to explore cheaply and Sunburst to change one thing in a photo you already like. Sloosh puts both in one picker.
