How do I generate images and video from ChatGPT with an MCP connector?

Updated October 23, 2026 · By Tyler Bennett

To generate images and video from ChatGPT with an MCP connector, add a media server such as Sloosh, fal, Higgsfield or CreativeClaw under ChatGPT's Plugins with "Add custom MCP server" or from its plugin listing, sign in with OAuth, then ask for the image or clip in chat. For Sloosh, paste https://mcp.sloosh.ai/mcp and set a daily credit limit; Sloosh's MCP docs say generating needs full MCP, which OpenAI gives to ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu workspaces (Sloosh docs, Oct 21, 2026).

The connector does the generating. ChatGPT writes the prompt, calls the server's tools, and shows the result or its link in the conversation.

How an MCP connector works in ChatGPT

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools from another app. A media server exposes tools such as "list models", "quote" and "generate". ChatGPT decides when to call them from your request.

 [ ChatGPT ] -- "product photo, then 5 s clip" --+
                                                  v
                              [ MCP server: Sloosh / fal ]
                                 | quote -> generate
                                 v
[ Image or video model ]
                                 |
 [ ChatGPT ] <--- result or link -+
Saved in the server's library (Sloosh: Assets)

ChatGPT plans the request; the MCP server runs the model and returns the media.

OpenAI's developer docs describe the add flow: go to ChatGPT Plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server, enter a name, set the connection and authentication, review the risk warning, and select Create as a plugin. OpenAI adds that "account and workspace policies apply to adding and using custom MCP servers" (developers.openai.com, checked Oct 23, 2026).

Which ChatGPT plans can generate through MCP?

Plan support is the part most guides get wrong, so check it before you start. For Sloosh, the most specific current source is Sloosh's MCP docs (updated Oct 21, 2026). They say:

  • Business and Enterprise/Edu: OpenAI gives full MCP, including tools that spend credits. An admin or owner adds the server for the workspace.
  • Pro: ChatGPT allows only read and fetch tools, so it can browse your Sloosh workspace but cannot generate or run Spaces.
  • Any ChatGPT plan: connect Sloosh in Codex instead, which runs the full tool set.

Other servers publish their own ChatGPT routes. fal's MCP page has an "Install fal in ChatGPT" path and says you can preview results in apps that display MCP Apps, "such as ChatGPT". Higgsfield's MCP page links a Higgsfield plugin install for ChatGPT, and CreativeClaw installs from ChatGPT's Plugins. Check each vendor's page for the plan you are on.

Server How you add it in ChatGPT Sign-in What it makes How you pay Checked on
Sloosh Add custom MCP server with https://mcp.sloosh.ai/mcp, Create as a plugin OAuth Images and video from 22 image and 20 video models, plus Spaces Workspace credits; agent MCP access on Sloosh Pro or Max Oct 23, 2026
fal "Install fal in ChatGPT", then type @fal Browser sign-in 1,000+ models: image, video, audio, 3D Server free; pay per model run Oct 23, 2026
Higgsfield Plugin install linked from its MCP page No API key Image and video from "30+ models" Higgsfield plan Oct 23, 2026
CreativeClaw Install from ChatGPT Plugins Google sign-in Video from models such as Seedance 2.5 Credit packs Oct 23, 2026

Best for, by job:

  • Product photos, ad variants and video with a daily spend cap: Sloosh.
  • The largest model list and per-run pricing: fal.
  • Higgsfield's own workflows in chat: Higgsfield.
  • Pay-as-you-go video without a subscription: CreativeClaw.

How to connect Sloosh to ChatGPT, step by step

These steps follow Sloosh's MCP docs. They take a few minutes, and you never paste a password or key.

  1. Open Plugins on ChatGPT web. Choose the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Fill in the server. Name it Sloosh, paste https://mcp.sloosh.ai/mcp, and set authentication to OAuth.
  3. Create it. Accept the risk warning and choose Create as a plugin.
  4. Sign in to Sloosh when the browser opens, and pick the workspace the connection works in.
  5. Set a daily limit. Open MCP settings on sloosh.ai/mcp and set how many credits agents can spend per day. Nothing paid runs until you do.
  6. Ask in plain words. Try "Make a studio photo of my water bottle on a clean white background", then "Turn my latest product image into a short video clip." Each paid run starts with a quote that is good for 5 minutes.

Results come back to the chat and are saved in your Sloosh Assets. Ask ChatGPT to call get_connection first: it shows the workspace, your permissions and how much of today's limit is left.

Watch out for: ChatGPT's MCP plan rules have changed more than once, so follow the current MCP docs page and test with one image before planning a workflow around it. On the Sloosh side, agent MCP access needs the Pro or Max plan; Creator does not include it. ChatGPT also keeps a snapshot of the tool list it read when the plugin was created, so new Sloosh tools reach your chats only after a workspace admin publishes an update to the plugin.

Prompts that work well over MCP

  • Name the output. "A 1:1 product photo" or "a 9:16 clip of 5 seconds" gives the server the settings it needs.
  • Point at an asset. "Use my latest product image" lets the agent find it in your library instead of asking you to upload again.
  • Ask for the price first. "Quote this before you run it" makes the agent show the cost and wait.
  • Ask for a short prompt rewrite. Sloosh's enhance_prompt tool rewrites a short prompt for the chosen model for free, so you can read it before you quote.

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT make videos through MCP on the Plus or Pro plan?

It depends on the server and on what OpenAI allows for your plan. Sloosh's MCP docs say ChatGPT Pro allows only read and fetch tools, so Sloosh cannot generate there; full MCP is on Business and Enterprise/Edu. To use Sloosh from any ChatGPT plan, connect it in Codex.

Do I need an API key to connect a media MCP server to ChatGPT?

Not for Sloosh, fal, Higgsfield or CreativeClaw. All four use a browser sign-in. fal's page says its old API-key setup now fails and should be replaced with the sign-in flow.

Where do the images and videos go?

Into the server's own library, and the result or its link appears in the chat. Sloosh saves every output in your Sloosh Assets, ready to edit or share.

Why does ChatGPT show old tools from my MCP server?

ChatGPT keeps a snapshot of the tool list from when the plugin was created. For custom servers, OpenAI's docs describe a Refresh button on the connection; for Sloosh, a workspace admin reviews and publishes the plugin update, and then you start a new chat.

Can ChatGPT spend my credits without asking?

Only within the limits the server sets. Sloosh runs nothing paid until a daily limit is set, quotes every paid run, and with "Ask before spending more than" set to 0, every paid run needs your confirmation.

Bottom line

Any ChatGPT workspace that allows custom MCP servers can connect an image and video server in a few clicks; what differs is whether your plan allows the tools that spend credits. Use fal for model range, CreativeClaw for pay-as-you-go video, and Sloosh for product and ad media with a quote on every run, connected in ChatGPT Business or Enterprise/Edu, or in Codex on any plan.
