Can Claude generate and preview video in chat?

Updated October 23, 2026 · By Tyler Bennett

Yes, Claude can generate video and bring it back into the chat, but only through a connected video tool, because Claude has no built-in video model. Connectors such as Sloosh, CreativeClaw, HeyGen and fal return the finished clip or its link to the conversation; with Sloosh, results "show in your chat and stay in your Sloosh Assets" (sloosh.ai/mcp, Oct 2026). Whether the clip plays inline or opens as a link depends on the Claude app and the tool.

What Claude can show on its own

Claude's help center says Claude "doesn't generate photos or illustrations the way image-generation tools do." What it can make in the conversation are diagrams, charts and interactive visuals built with HTML and SVG, in beta on Claude web and desktop (support.claude.com, checked Oct 23, 2026). The article does not mention video.

So there are two different things people mean by "video in Claude":

  • Animated visuals Claude writes as code. An interactive chart or an HTML animation that Claude builds and you can adjust. This is not a video file.
  • Real video clips. An MP4 made by a video model such as Seedance or Kling. Claude needs a connector for this.

How video generation and preview work through a connector

A video connector gives Claude tools over MCP (Model Context Protocol). The flow is the same for most tools: Claude writes the prompt, starts a job, checks on it, and posts the result.

 [ You ] "Turn this photo into a 5 s clip"
    |
    v
 [ Claude ] -- start job --> [ Video tool (MCP) ]
    | |
    |<---- status: running ---------+
    |<---- done: clip + link -------+
    v
Chat shows the result; the file is saved
in the tool's library (Sloosh: Assets)

Video jobs run outside Claude; the chat receives the finished clip or its link.

Video jobs are asynchronous. CreativeClaw's page says Claude "polls the job" and the finished file comes back in the thread, usually in 30 seconds to 2 minutes (checked Oct 23, 2026). HeyGen's MCP tools return a video ID, and a get_video tool returns the status and the video URL. Sloosh has get_generation, which reads status, outputs and the final charge.

Video connectors that return results to the chat

Tool How the result comes back Saved where Key needed? Checked on
Sloosh "Results show in your chat" Sloosh Assets No, browser sign-in Oct 23, 2026
CreativeClaw File "returns in the thread", usually 30 s to 2 min CreativeClaw account No, Google sign-in Oct 23, 2026
HeyGen get_video returns status and video_url HeyGen account No, OAuth Oct 23, 2026
fal Model run returns the output; one example turns a photo into a short video fal No for OAuth clients Oct 23, 2026
Higgsfield Generation tools in chat Higgsfield account No ("no API key required") Oct 23, 2026

Best for, by job:

  • Product clips and ad variants, with a price before each run: Sloosh.
  • Quick tries with no subscription: CreativeClaw.
  • Avatar and talking-head video: HeyGen.
  • Picking from a very large model list: fal.

How to generate and preview video in Claude with Sloosh

Sloosh's MCP server gives Claude tools to pick a model, get a quote and generate images or video in your workspace. It takes four steps.

  1. Connect Sloosh. Download the plugin from sloosh.ai/mcp, upload it under Customize, then Plugins, and choose Connect on its Connectors tab. Or add a custom connector with https://mcp.sloosh.ai/mcp.
  2. Sign in and pick a workspace when the browser opens. No key or password goes into Claude.
  3. Set a daily limit in MCP settings. Nothing paid runs until a limit is set.
  4. Ask for the clip, for example "Turn my latest product image into a short video clip." Claude quotes it (a quote is good for 5 minutes), runs it after you approve, and posts the result. The clip is also saved in your Sloosh Assets, where you can edit, extend or upscale it in Studio.

Claude can pick from the 20 video models in Sloosh Studio, such as Seedance 2.5, Kling V3 Omni and MiniMax H3 (Sloosh models doc, Oct 2026). Ask Claude to call list_models to see each model's options first.

Watch out for: Sloosh documents only that results "show in your chat"; whether a clip plays inline or appears as a link depends on the Claude app you use. Agent MCP access needs the Sloosh Pro or Max plan, and Creator does not include it. Keep the paid tools on "ask" in the connector's settings so Claude checks with you before spending credits.

Tips for reviewing video in chat

  • Ask for a still first. Generate an image of the opening frame, approve it, then animate it. On Sloosh's pricing page, a Nano Banana Pro 2K image is about 2 credits, while Seedance 2.5 video is about 3.47 credits per second (Oct 2026).
  • Ask Claude to describe the result. Claude can read the tool's status and outputs, and report the model, length and charge.
  • Open the saved copy for close review. For frame-by-frame checks, open the file in the tool's library (Sloosh Assets) rather than the chat preview.
  • Iterate in the same thread. Ask for "the same clip, but slower camera" and Claude can reuse the prompt and reference from the earlier run.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see the price before Claude makes a video?

Yes, with tools that quote first. Every paid Sloosh run over MCP starts with a quote that is good for 5 minutes, and with "Ask before spending more than" set to 0, Claude must get your confirmation before each paid run.

How long does it take for a video to appear in Claude?

Usually from under a minute to a few minutes, depending on the model and clip length. CreativeClaw cites 30 seconds to 2 minutes for its clips. Longer clips and higher resolutions take longer on any tool.

Is the video saved anywhere after the chat?

Yes, in the connected tool's library. Sloosh saves every result in your Sloosh Assets, so you can download, edit or share it after the conversation ends.

Can Claude edit a video it just made?

Yes, if the connected tool has edit tools. Sloosh's MCP server can quote and run a video edit, and Studio's Edit video mode has Edit, Extend, Upscale, HDR and Frame rate tools.

Does generating video in Claude cost extra?

Claude does not charge per clip, but the video tool does. With Sloosh, each paid run is quoted first and paid from workspace credits within the daily limit you set.

Bottom line

Claude can generate video and show the result in the chat once you connect a video tool; it cannot render video by itself. Use HeyGen for avatars, CreativeClaw for pay-as-you-go trials, and Sloosh when you want a quote on every clip, a daily spend cap and every result saved in one library.
